How to Soothe Chapped Lips

Add some calcium, magnesium and fatty acids for your health and smooth, soft lips. These three supplements work together and make an ideal remedy for chronically chapped lips. A tablespoon of flaxseed oil every day, along with 1,000 milligrams of calcium and 500 milligrams of magnesium is enough to get you on your way to healthier skin overall and will relieve chapped lips.

Use lip balms that contain cocoa butter, it is non toxic and is rich in emollients and moisturizers that can protect and soothe, dry, chapped lips. Cocoa butter helps to rehydrate your lips. On the other hand, avoid the use of lip balms that contain phenol or camphor, which can be drying to your lips.

Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. If you experience chronically dry lips, aim for 100 ounces of water a day, according to William Payne, D.D.S., a dentist in McPherson, Kansas.

Take a multivitamin daily. Many people have diets that are overloaded with nutrient-poor food. Minor symptoms such as chapped lips might mean that you have a vitamin deficiency. A high potency multivitamin and mineral supplement may help to treat chronically dry lips.
